Amazing EBLI Stories: Tyler
When we first met Tyler, he was living a very difficult life. His suicide attempt had been aborted thanks to his dad and he'd been incarcerated. Part of his brain had been removed to alleviate his seizures. From a young age, he was put in classes to teach him life skills rather than academics.

Launching the EBLI Online Training
The online training is 7 weeks long and is facilitated by EBLI experts. It is unlike typical online courses that focus on delivery of information and writing papers. Many of our pilot trainees were not expecting the extensive hands-on experiential learning and teaching!

From Practice to Success
Grant Garman is a sweet, sports loving, compassionate client of ours who started at Ounce of Prevention at the end of 2014 when he was in 3rd grade. At that time, reading was torturous as opposed to enjoyable for him. In spite of that, he has been unwavering with his diligence and dedication to the process of improving his reading!

Get Kids Reading Like Crazy
My wish is for all children to experience the passion, adventure, awareness, and education that stems from reading for fun. I also wish for you - their parent, teacher, grandparent, babysitter, or loved one - to assist them in that quest.

The Reading League: Literacy Warriors Unite
On March 10th, 2016, I traveled to New York for 36 hours in order to attend the 2nd event of The Reading League. A while back, John Corcoran introduced me to The Reading League founder Maria Murray. For years John’s book, The Teacher Who Couldn’t Read, had been required reading for students in her undergrad education classes at SUNY Oswego, where she is a literacy professor. Maria is also a published reading researcher.

Handwriting Pt. 1: How it Relates to Reading
When I first speak to parents and teachers about handwriting, the general consensus is that it’s a bit antiquated and there isn’t much point to the instruction. This isn’t everyone, mind you, but the majority. I'd like to address why handwriting is crucial and how it connects with reading.

Why EBLI Was Created - Colleen's Interview
Colleen, my middle daughter, has always been bright, kind-hearted, and curious. Her reading challenges in 2nd grade, back in 1997, were the impetus that led to the creation of EBLI. Besides struggling with reading and spelling at that time, she lacked confidence, was self-conscious, and had low self-esteem.

Amazing EBLI Schools Part 3 - Lakeview High
I remember the phone call in 2010 that put Lakeview on my radar. I answered on the deck during lunch when I was training a large group of teachers at an ISD building. The caller, Gary Jensen, told me that he just gotten assigned as the principal at Lakeview High School and that they were on the Michigan's Priority Schools (lowest 5%) list. They also had the lowest ACT scores in the county.
