The difference is effectiveness and efficiency

Why EBLI Works—Faster

Other programs require hundreds of hours and constant re-teaching because they work against the brain’s natural learning process. EBLI works with it.

By connecting speech sounds to the letter(s) that represent them—instead of the other way around—students grasp accurate and automatic word reading faster, can more easily transfer it to reading in text, and can apply what they’ve learned to previously unknown words. This leads to faster, easier literacy acquisition for students and more efficient, productive teaching for educators.

The EBLI Method

How EBLI Works

1

Starts with sound

We anchor instruction in sound—what is natural or biologically primary—then map those sounds to print. This accelerates accurate reading and orthographic mapping, the process of permanently storing words in the brain for automatic, instant retrieval.

2

Learn the logic of the code

EBLI facilitates students’ recognition of reliable patterns when decoding, expediting the transition to statistical learning or self-teaching, rather than relying on inconsistent phonics rules, syllable types, and whole-word memorization.

3

Builds learning through routines

EBLI instruction incorporates simple, logical, brain-friendly routines based on the Science of Learning. These routines quickly become automatic and can be applied across all subject areas and throughout life whenever reading, spelling, or writing is required.

4

Teaches concepts to read unknown or unfamiliar words

English is complex, with extensive variability—one sound can be spelled in multiple ways, and one spelling can represent multiple sounds. From the outset, EBLI explicitly teaches learners how to navigate this variability and flex or substitute sounds, enabling them to quickly and accurately decipher unfamiliar words independently.

5

Prepares students for longer words sooner

Early on in instruction, EBLI teaches a process for reading and spelling multisyllabic words using spoken syllable breaks, facilitating early access to authentic text and, for students 2nd grade and older, completely avoiding the need for decodable text.
